Is Vegan Protein Powder Good for You?
Posted By
Olivia Ensor
Answering the question "is vegan protein powder good for you?" really depends on the powder in question. Vegan protein powder is suited to almost everybody, but not all are the same.
When looking for a vegan protein powder, always check the label. The ingredient list is crucial when deciding whether a product is good for you and your health.
Vegan protein powders can often be tainted with chemicals, fillers, and artificial sweeteners. Manufacturers use these to prolong shelf life or build on the flavour and texture profile of the product, but these can present several side effects to the body, particularly bad gut health. Tip: if you struggle to pronounce anything on the label, the product is sure to be a no-go.
Our next advice would be to read into the brand. Read into their story. How do they manufacture their protein powder? Where do they source the ingredients? Transparency of a product reflects how good it truly is for you.
When you find the perfect, clean protein powder, your body and the environment will thank you. There are a vast amount of benefits a vegan protein powder can offer:
A 'complete' protein
There is a common myth that vegan protein powders are not ‘complete'; meaning they lack all nine essential amino acids. Compared to whey, vegan protein has similar or higher levels of numerous essential amino acids, including leucine, isoleucine, and valine. In particular, pea protein contains higher levels of arginine.
Effectiveness
Studies have shown that vegan protein is just as effective as whey at promoting muscle growth and suppressing appetite. Vegan protein powders also contain additional micronutrients such as iron.
Easily digestible
Vegan protein powders are easily broken down and absorbed by the body due to the absence of anti-nutritional elements - commonly found in animal protein powders. They are also naturally high in dietary fibre, which can help you feel fuller for longer and contribute to a healthy digestive system.
Hypoallergenic
Vegan protein powders are free from common allergens, such as dairy and gluten. Although, depending on the source, some powders do contain common allergens such as soy and gluten. If you have any food allergies, intolerances or sensitivities, ensure you do your research before trying.
Environmentally friendly
It goes without saying that vegan protein powders are conscious of the environment. Vegan protein sources typically use less land and water and produce far fewer emissions compared to animal sources.
Clean Lean Protein works with nature, not against it. Our vegan golden pea protein contains up to 90% protein and all nine essential amino acids, with a digestibility rating of 98% - making it one of the highest and most bioavailable sources of protein available.
The main ingredient used in Clean Lean Protein - Pisane - is an isolate of amino acids from the European Golden Pea. Most of the raw material and any exogenous substances are left behind during the extraction process.
The peas we use are grown in mineral-rich soil from a supplier we chose based on the geographical location of their crop, which contains lower soil, sea and air pollution hence producing a very clean pea protein isolate. They are one of the only suppliers in the world that utilise a water-isolation process that is completely chemical-free, so there are no artificial chemicals or additives added to our product at any stage of manufacture.
